William T. Cannady Hall - Rice University
Houston, Texas
The new 22,000 SF building, named in honor of William T. Cannady— professor emeritus at Rice Architecture and a distinguished architect, educator, and design advocate in the Houston community for over 60 years—provides additional space for the Rice School of Architecture. Connecting seamlessly to the school’s longstanding, M.D. Anderson Hall, the building features an elevated walkway that facilitates easy access. The addition is designed with a focus on functionality and versatility, showcasing a two-story public gallery that serves as a dynamic space for exhibitions, lectures, and community events. The building includes adaptable teaching spaces that can be reconfigured to meet the diverse needs of various courses and workshops, promoting an environment conducive to interactive learning. A specialized digital technology and fabrication shop is another highlight, equipped with state-of-the-art tools and a double-height installation area, allowing students to engage in hands-on projects and explore cutting-edge techniques in design and construction.
