The Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation Center for Conservation is a state-of-the-art facility designed to support the preservation, treatment, and study of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s vast collection. This 23,796 SF center, completed in 2018, plays a crucial role in the museum’s commitment to art conservation by providing advanced laboratories, climate-controlled storage, and secure handling spaces for delicate works of art.
Strategically built atop the Fannin Street Parking Garage, the location ensures seamless access to the museum’s other facilities, allowing conservators to work closely with curators and museum staff. The project also required the relocation of existing cooling towers and emergency generators to accommodate the new structure.
The facility is an integral part of the MFAH campus transformation, reinforcing the museum’s mission to preserve cultural heritage for future generations.
