Stages at the Gordy represents a bold transformation for Stages Repertory Theatre, Houston’s sixth-largest nonprofit performing arts producer. Designed by Gensler, this $35.8 million project combines an adaptive reuse of a 40,000 SF warehouse with a purpose-built expansion, resulting in a 66,825 SF performing arts complex that elevates Houston’s cultural landscape.
The facility is centered around three uniquely designed performance spaces—the Sterling Stage, Lester and Sue Smith Stage, and Rochelle and Max Levitt Stage—each fostering an intimate audience-artist connection. Beyond the performance venues, the project includes rehearsal and education studios, full production and design workshops, community workspaces, and administrative offices, ensuring Stages continues to thrive as a creative hub.
Cutting-edge theater technology enhances the patron experience, offering a dynamic and immersive environment for a diverse range of productions. Since its completion in January 2020, Stages at the Gordy has been celebrated as a landmark project, earning the 2020 Houston Business Journal Landmark Award in the Special Project Category.
