Historical Redevelopment -
Project Budget$2,500,000
In an effort to preserve history while fostering community engagement, West End Church renovated a 9,728 SF building, originally built in 1930, into The Coffee House at West End. The transformation converted the former three-story layout into a two-story space, with the original second floor reimagined as a mezzanine for additional seating and gatherings.
A rooftop deck was also added, providing a stunning view of the Houston skyline and serving as a venue for special events. To accommodate live music performances, the building's acoustics were upgraded, creating an immersive experience for guests.
Recognized for its innovative blend of historic preservation and modern functionality, the project was a finalist in the Houston Business Journal’s 2022 Landmark Awards (Special Project category) and earned the prestigious 2025 ULI Development of Distinction Award for Historical Redevelopment.
This renovation successfully redefined the space, transforming it into a beloved community gathering hub while honoring its architectural past.
